Assistive Listening System
Assistive listening devices (ALDs) amplify and clarify sound by cutting down or eliminating ambient noise. Infrared or radio frequency ALD systems are installed in all three theaters and headsets may be used at any seat. Headsets are distributed free-of-charge on a first-come, first-served basis by the house management staff. Simply request a devices from an usher or house manager prior to entering the theater.
Open Caption Theater
Open-captioning is scheduled for select University Theatre performances throughout the year for patrons who have hearing loss and may not benefit from hearing amplification. During these events, an experienced captioner transmits text to a provided iPad in real time, as each line is spoken or sung. Additionally, any patron may access the captioning service on their personal mobile device by visiting the URL provided in each applicable show’s playbill.
Please make your reservations for this service at the time you purchase your ticket through Ticket Central to ensure the best seating for this service.
Captioned performance dates can be found to the right or bottom of this page under “Accessibility at University Theatre”
