NC State’s Volunteer Student Theatre
Since 1964, University Theatre has been NC State University’s volunteer student theatre. Under the direction of a full-time professional staff, we produce eight to ten shows each season: four to five main season shows, a summer TheatreFest repertory season of three plays and, when schedule permits, a diversity play and Student Studio production.
University Theatre offers a blend of student volunteer productions and academic theatre training. Productions are open to all NC State students, regardless of major or whether or not they are enrolled in theatre courses, thus providing an extracurricular production program with the opportunity to receive course credit.
As a member program of ARTS NC STATE, housed within the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, University Theatre’s mission is to provide quality theatrical, artistic and practical experiences for the students and larger campus as well as Triangle communities.
We invite students and the community to bring their own life experiences to the learning process, to observe the life experiences of others, to become better informed on the human condition and to discover, learn and grow in a supportive artistic environment.
Take a Theatre Class
University Theatre offers academic courses in acting, directing, introduction to theatre and all areas of technical theatre, including stagecraft, costume, makeup, lighting and scenic design. All NC State students are welcome to enroll in theatre courses for credit. Students can also choose to minor in theatre.
Participation in University Theatre is flexible and fun! Whether you’re looking to be onstage or backstage, we offer a wide range of opportunities at all levels of time commitment. You do not need to have any prior experience, just a desire to meet new people and a willingness to explore your interests.
