Oscar Wilde’s Trivial Comedy for Serious People.

Best friends Jack and Algernon each adopt fictional identities to escape social obligations. Jack invents a brother named Ernest, while Algernon creates an invalid friend named Bunbury. The plot unfolds with mistaken identities, romantic entanglements, clever wordplay, and humorous social commentary.

In this irreverent, contemporary, and darkly funny adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, Aaron Posner stages a timeless battle between young and old, past and present, in search of the true meaning of the creation- and necessity- of art.

2025 Creative Artist Winner written by Alexandra Weld 

A research assistant returns from a voyage into the forest and finds that he and his companion need variety in their lives. They witness some abnormal events, and what they do find out is both vague and unsettling. The arrival of a third party presenting uncomfortable moral questions throws them off. They must then decide; what do they value? What is right and wrong, and does it really matter during a nuclear apocalypse?

Students will read excepts from select books in an evening of live staged readings

Each fall, the NC State Libraries partners with University Theatre to create an original performance of Banned and Challenged books. A company of eight individuals will be charged with creating an evening of excerpts from books that personally impact their lives in different ways.
