From the director
As our first foray into a new version of our Studio Series, this piece is incredibly important to me. This is a unique experience for our students, as they have had the opportunity to delve more deeply into their characters than they typically do in our Production Series pieces. They have been asked to participate in much more challenging ways, from the audition process through production, and experience a more in-depth, professional-style approach.
This piece is an adaptation of and a love letter to Anton Chekhov's The Seagull, in that both desire to delve into new 'forms' of theatre in ways that are reactionary and provocative. This script is difficult in terms of context and content, from the meta-theatricality to the discussions of lost love and self-harm, and these students have been extraordinarily thorough, curious, and sensitive in all regards. I am extremely grateful and proud of the work they have all done, and excited to share this challenging work with all of you.
