Playbill: From the Program Director
REPLACE TEXT WITH THEATREFEST VERBIAGE.
We are excited to be back once again in Stewart Theatre since the spring of 2020. Today’s performance is the culmination of weeks of rehearsals, dozens of meetings, and hours in our various shops to bring this mammoth production to the stage. The students and staff of University Theatre are excited to invite you into our community and ecstatic to share our work with you!
University Theatre’s community is made up of students from every college on campus, a talented staff of artist and technicians, an array of local professional theatre makers, and today our community includes you.
University Theatre is an open-access program, NC State’s very own community theatre. The performers you will see today, the students backstage and those who worked in the shops are not majors. In fact many involved in today’s production have not taken a single theatre class on campus. Our programming is here to provide a safe and welcoming space for students to explore their artistic side on one of the finest research campuses in the country. Our vision is to be a leader in non-major theatre programs and to demonstrate that the arts are important in every field of study. Our shows are built by, crewed by, and performed by students and today’s production is no exception, with 112 students involved in bringing Urinetown to life.
So be sure you have pee’d before the show starts. The first act is just under an hour, and the second act will run just over forty-five minutes.
Afterwards, it is our hope you will spread the news about the show to friends, family, and throughout the community. We hope you enjoy the performance today and thank you for your continued support of University Theatre.
Once again, welcome to Urinetown…the musical!
