Creating 10-minute plays in 24 hours
Quick Scripts is a night of 10-minute plays written, directed, and rehearsed by theatre makers in record time. University Theatre invites you to be a part of the process as playwright, director, or performer.
QuickSCRIPTS performs multiple times during the academic year. To be considered for participation click on the various roles below.

Playwrights can submit their names for consideration by filling out the form below. Each potential playwright will need to provide a writers’ statement. We suggest preparing this statement prior to starting the form.
This statement should answer the following:
- Tell us a bit about yourself, your approach to your writing, and what stories you like to tell.
All four playwrights will receive the same prompt at 5pm the Wednesday before performance with scripts due 24-hours later. All four plays will be based on the same prompt.
Scripts must abide by the following:
- The material is respectful of human differences. If racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, or other hate oriented behaviors are present in the play, they are a source of exploration and not merely a given circumstance.
- Can be performed in no more than 10 minutes
- Can be performed in no less than 5 minutes
- Can be performed with no more than 5 performers.
Playwrights can expect their script to be played on a bare stage with basic rehearsal lighting. Directors will have access to:
- One couch
- Two Club chairs
- Rehearsal blocks (sm, med, & lg)
- One square table
- Four chairs
Audio/Lighting requirements within the script are discouraged.
All performers, from all four plays, will be seated upstage during the performance.
- Open to the public.
- Must be 18 years or older to participate.
- Current NC State enrolled students will be given priority consideration.
Directors can submit their names for consideration by filling out the form below. Each potential director will need to provide a written artistic statement. We suggest preparing this statement prior to starting the form.
This statement should answer the following:
- Tell us a bit about yourself, your approach to your directing, how you like to organize the rehearsal process, and what stories you like to tell
Directors will receive their script at 7pm the Thursday before performance.
Directors should be available for rehearsal on Saturday based on the schedule above. UT will provide final rehearsal schedule once cast list is posted following the schedule above.
Directors can expect a bare stage with basic rehearsal lighting. Directors will have access to:
- One couch
- Two Club chairs
- Numerous rehearsal blocks (sm, med, & lg)
- One square table
- Four chairs
All casts will be seated on stage during a roughly 1-hour performance and will assist in scene changes between the four groups
- Open to the public.
- Must be 18 years or older to participate.
- Current NC State enrolled students will be given priority consideration.
Performers can submit their names for consideration by filling out the form below. Each potential performer will need to provide a 90-seconds or less video artistic statement. We suggest preparing this video prior to starting the form.
The video should not be overly complicated or produced, in fact we welcome video submissions by camera phone simply answer the following prompt:
- Tell us a bit about yourself, your approach(es) to performance, how you prefer to rehearse, and what stories you like to tell.
By submitting materials for consideration, performers are agreeing to be cast by directors based solely on the video artistic statement and form answers.
Unlike traditional auditions, there is no script to peruse prior to auditions. If you are uncomfortable being cast without first reading the script, this project may not be for you. Please visit our other opportunities here
Performers will be provided scripts and roles no later than 7pm the Friday before performance and rehearsal schedules no later than 8pm that night.
